Entry 859 // In the Light
— 1 John 1:9 (NRSVUE)
Forgive and cleanse from the unrighteousness that is there!
What do we do? Confess.
Who forgives? The One Who Is:
- Faithful: He doesn't just pick and choose when. Every time.
- Just: Confession brings us back into right standing.
Context:
1:1 referencing Jesus as the word of life. They saw Him. They touched Him. They had a human relationship with Him.
1:2-3 Their declaration giving fellowship with them, the ones who were there, and that being fellowship also with the Father and the Son.
It's amazing what we don't pick up the first 20 times we read it!
1:5 Heard from Him.
1:6 POW! It's not true fellowship if we're walking in the dark because there is no darkness in Him. It's a lie.
1:7 ❤️ Walking in the light is fellowship and His blood covers us.
1:8 Same with sins.
1:10 The "I'm not a sinner!" clause.
2:1 Writing to help us not to sin; if we do, we have an advocate — Jesus (the righteous :D).
Less sin through fellowship and through the Word!
